U-15's match report w/e 18th November 2018

Buccs U-15’s travelled to Gort on Sunday with a squad of 22 to play this top of the table clash. Buccs started well enough but Gort had a purple patch where they scored a cluster of tries. Buccs replied with a couple of tries from Sean McGrath and one each from Cian daly and Gary O’Shea and a scorcher from Aaron Murray. But overall it was Buccs poor ball retention and indifferent defence that let Gort in for unneccessary scores.

BUCCANEERS:- L.Chapman, J.Coyle, A.Murray, D.Bolger, A.Temple, M.Henry, H.Stuart-Trainor, P.O’loughlan, P.Edmundson, K.Claffey, E.Burke, F.McKiernan, E.McDonnell, R.Byrne, O.Flaherty, V.Meyer, Carlos, C.McLoughlin, C.O’Brien, G.O’Shea and S.McGrath.

U-14 match report w/e 18th November

Buccaneers U-14 squad played NUIG in a friendly at Dubarry Park on Saturday.

Three 20 minute sections were played with referee Brian Tallon keeping both sides in check. Buccs made many changes rotating their whole squad throughout the games, with those not playing training with coach Seamus Lyons. The match was close in scoring but the Buccs squad would have gleaned most from this encounter where so many played well. Buccs play Sligo and Connemara next weekend.

BUCCANEERS:- A.Ward, M.Fallon, S.Doyle, S.Joyce, S.Rohan, L.Cassidy, P.Egan, P.Dolan, M.Tallon, C.O’Hara, D.Connolly, D.Reid, D.Murtagh, Diego, D.McGrath, O.Flynn, O.Byrne, B.Mulvihill, C.Reid, J.Duffy, Matas, F.Lyons, M.Kilclyne, C.Hynes, E.Killeen, E.Kane and T.Daly.

U-14's match report 20/10/2018

Buccaneers U-14’s played Ampleforth College, Alma Mater of two former greats Lawrence Dallaglio and Billy McMickan who kindly agreed to referee what proved to be an intense battle. Buccs were caught on the hop when watching their bigger/older opponents go in for a couple of easy scores but came back into the game and with four minutes to go were just 15-12 down. There followed a period of intense pressure on the visitors’ line and Buccs declined several penalties but eventually worked an overlap in the corner and were unlucky not to be given the score. This was a high quality encounter and, if Buccs can defend as a tackling unit and lower their body height in the rucks, this squad can go a long way. Best for Buccs were Patrick Egan and Cormac Petrie in the forwards and Michael Kenny and Fionn Lyons in the backs.

BUCCANEERS:- L Cassidy, C O’Hara, S Doyle, CPetrie, C Sheehan, O Flynn, P Dolan, N Tallon, F Lyons, E Joyce, A Stuart-Trainor, D Reid, J Clarke, B Mulvihill, Diego Matas, P Egan, D Murtagh, N Heavey and M Kenny.

U-14's matches w/e 14th October

Buccaneers U-14’s played NUI Galway in the Connacht Development League on Sunday and used the opportunity to play 33 players against an NUIG team that was too strong for development level. However there were some outstanding Buccs performances in the first half with debutant Michael Kilclyne magnificent and a returning Oisin Flynn and Caolin Duffy to the fore. In the second half James Clarke and Leon Cassidy stood up to an NUIG assault and came back to draw the half two tries apiece.

BUCCANEERS:- M.Fallon, M.Connor, Matas, D.Lally, S.Doyle, S.Rohan, C.Hynes, S.Joyce, C.O’Hara, O.Flynn, C.Petrie, C.Sheehan, O.Byrne, P.Dolan, P.Egan, F.Lyons, A.Sheffield, D.Connolly, A.Ward, B.Mulvihill, D.McGrath, D.Murtagh, J.Clarke, O.Dolan, T.McCay, C.Duffy, E.Kane, T.Muldoon, E.Killeen,  M.Kilclyne, T.Daly, A.Stuart-Trainor and L.Cassidy.

Buccaneers U-14’s “yellow” team had a big win against a game Caslebar outfit at home on Saturday in appalling conditions. Buccs started slowly as the game was spoilt by the rain but managed to score twice before the big Castlebar No.6 ran through some woeful attempts at tackles to score under the posts. Suitably stung Buccs reacted well to the half-time regrouping to forge ahead, scoring three times in the last five minutes to give the scoreline the flattering appearance of 38-14.
Con O’Hara was outstanding when the game was in the melting pot and he was ably supported by Conor Sheehan, Niall Tallon, Danny Reid and Fionn Lyons.

U-14’s two games at Galwegians

Both Buccs U-14 teams travelled to Glenina on Saturday to play old rivals Galwegians. The yellow team played first and though missing a few regulars played some superb rugby. Michael Kenny 2 Danny Reid 2 Diego and Sean Doyle were the try scorers with Euan Joyce converting 4.Galwegians scored late try but this was a good all round performance by this developing young squad with defence holding the key.
The black team only scored a single try but, with several debutants, nevertheless put in a promising performance. Patrick Egan, Caolin Duffy and Than were outstanding but tackling was always an issue. Next week this team plays NUIG in a league fixture in Athlone.
