Buccaneers Reserves had to fight hard to advance to the next round of the Heineken Connacht Junior Cup when they defeated Ballinasloe 22-10 after extra time at Dubarry Park. Buccaneers scored 10 points in the first half, a penalty by Tim Clifford, and then followed by a try scored by Declan Byrne and converted by Clifford. Ballinasloe replied with a penalty by Rob O'Beirne.
In the second half the game was even until 4 minutes before full time when Ballinasloe scored a late try by Mark Hannigan and converted by O'Beirne, putting the game into two 10 minute periods of extra time. In an absorbing and typical derby contest, Buccaneers scored two further tries by Byrne and Rory Walshe, both were converted by outhalf Clifford. The game was played in good spirit and a fine standard of rugby. Buccs had the wherewithal to merit their win but need to apply themselves a little more clinical in the next stage.
