CONGRATULATIONS to Una Duffy on being named ‘Athlone Person of the Year’. Una has dedicated countless years of voluntary service to those less fortunate, and she is indeed a truly worthy winner of this coveted accolade. Una has, of course, served for many years on the Ladies Committee of Athlone Rugby Football Club, long before Buccaneers evolved when facilities were not so good and the rugby club was not so fashionable. Well done, Una!

Una’s son Lawrence was doubly happy last weekend, celebrating not only his mother’s award but also his local rugby club’s second successive promotion. Gwernyfed captured the Welsh Division 4 East title following on their Division 5 success last season.

Congrats too to Monivea on finally making the breakthrough to the AIB League. Here’s wishing them all the best next season.

Good luck too to our club member Patricia Cleary on her election as Chairperson of Swim Ireland in what will surely be a challenging but exciting Olympic Games year.
