Upcoming Youths Fixtures

published:Oct  14   2018

Two interesting teams visit Dubarry Park this week. First to arrive will be Ellon, a club in Aberdeenshire, who are bringing their U-12 squad to Ireland. They will be playing in a blitz with their Buccaneers counterparts in Galway on Saturday. Their coach is Mel Mannion, a native of Arcadia in Athlone, while long-time stalwart Buccaneers player and past captain Alex Hayman is a product of Ellon. They will be meeting up with Alex in The Bounty on Friday.

On Sunday, Ampleforth College from Yorkshire will play a match with our U-14’s. Ampleforth is one of the world’s foremost Catholic boarding schools and past pupils include actors Rupert Everett (“My Best Friend’s Wedding”) and James Norton (who played the lead role in the recent hit TV series “McMafia”). That match will be refereed by another Ampleforth ‘old boy’ Billy McMickan, current Chairman of Football at Buccaneers!

BUCCANEERS GIRLS TEAMS are holding a Table Quiz in The Bounty on this Thursday, October 18th at 8.30 p.m. They have a fine array of prizes and complimentary finger food will be served. Entry fee is €10 per adult and all support will be greatly appreciated.

Deepest sympathy is extended to the family of the late Felix (Fay) McDonald, who died recently in USA aged 93. A native of Co. Kildare, he was a butcher by trade who captained Athlone in 1956/57. He was on the club’s teams that won a first Connacht Senior Cup in 1955 and Connacht Senior League in 1956. May he rest in eternal peace.
