U9's Connacht Rugby Blitz in Castlebar – Saturday March 28th.

published:Mar  30   2015

Buccaneers U9's travelled to a blustery Castlebar for a U9 Connacht blitz.

The Pirates fielded 25 players divided into two teams.

Both teams played four hard fought games each, winning 7 and drawing 1.

  Squad 1 won all games, 5-0 v Ballina, 7-0 v Monivea, 6-1 v Gort, 5-1 v Claremorris

The pick of the matches being the first game against Ballina, despite the scoreline the game was a tight affair, where space for running rugby was at a minimum. It's was the tight defence and well worked counter rucking of the Buccaneers which was the difference between the teams. Buccs capitalised on their chances while cutting off Ballina's at every opportunity.

Buccs squad 1 - Sean O'Donoghue, Tiernan Mitchell, Brandon Conroy, Pat Ward, Cathal O'Brien, Evan McMicken, Ruairi Kilcline, Michael Commins, Jacques Bourdon, Conor Naughton, John Hurley, O'Tega Awhinawhi, Dylan Bruton

 Squad 2 won 3 games and drew 1, 5-3 v Loughrea, 3-3 v Ballina, 5-3 v Barna, 5-3 v Castlebar

In similar style to squad 1's best match, squad 2's tightest game was also the most entertaining of the four they played. That being the enthralling draw with Ballina. It was an end to end match with both teams giving as good as they got. One try a piece separated the sides at half time, with both defences in top gear. More of the same in the second half delivered a physical contest right to the final whistle.

Buccs squad 2 - Charlie O'Carroll, Jason Dolan, Lorcan McCormack, Aaron Hurley, Tom Bourke, Conor Dowling, Eoin Naughton, Nathan Downes, Rian Claffey, Shane Wheatley, Michael Redmond, Lucas Carlin
