SECONDS AWAY TO CASTLEBAR IN JUNIOR CUP | News | Buccaneers Rugby Football Club Athlone

BUCCANEERS SECONDS face a tricky assignment when they head to Castlebar on Sunday for a Connacht Junior Cup joust with the Mayo club. The Pirates will need to be at their focussed and committed best when the action kicks off in Cloondeash at 2 p.m. Castlebar lie third in Division 1B but, like this Buccs side, have a tendency for inconsistency. It’s a clash that could go either way and that old sporting term “who wants it most” could be the decisive ingredient.

Incidentally, BUCCANEERS WOMENS league game against Castlebar was postponed last Sunday due to a frozen pitch.

BUCCANEERS RFC and St. Hilda’s School thank everyone, both runners and organisers, who participated in the New Year’s Day 5K Run. There was a decent turnout and the top ten finishers, where Kate Kelly really made Michael Murphy work to the finish to take the top place, are as follows:-

1 Michael Murphy 18.42

2 Kate Kelly 18.53

3 Damien Mitchell 19.47

4 Jackie Kelly 20.52

5 Martin Sherlock 21.58

6 Ruairi Lyons

7 David Clarke

8 Anthony Kenny

9 Donal Duffy

10 Pat Canty.

Thanks too to everyone who supported last week’s enjoyably successful TABLE QUIZ in aid of Buccaneers U-17’s team.

It’s looking like a full house for BUCCANEERS NETWORKING LUNCH which is taking place in Athlone’s Sheraton Hotel on Friday, February 2nd. The guest speakers of the calibre of Pat McDonagh (Supermacs), Gary McGann (Aryzta and Paddy Power Betfair) and Kingsley Aikens (Diaspora Matters) have drawn a strong response in bookings.
