Lots of activity around Dubarry Park

published:Jun  12   2019

Buccaneers Tag Rugby Summer League continues on Thursday evenings at Dubarry Park where the first match nightly gets under way after 6.30 p.m. At time of writing, I understand there are vacancies for a couple of more teams to enter. This can be done by logging on to the IRFU website www.irfu.com to register. Matches are for mixed seven-a-side teams and three females must be on the pitch at all times. Scores by female players get bonus points! Ideally a squad should have 12 players. For further local information contact Yvonne at 0860488090 or Billy at 0878196476. The finals are scheduled for Friday, July 19th with the presentations of the various awards following that night in The Bounty.

Buccaneers annual Golf Classic will take place at Glasson Country House Hotel & Golf Club on Wednesday July 24th. Entries from teams of four players are invited; two scores to count on each hole. Of course, the earlier you enter, the better choice of tee-off times is available. Email to rugby@dubarrypark.com please. Entry fee, which includes dinner, is €240 for teams teeing off before 11.30 a.m. and €280 thereafter.

“Give It A Try” for girls aged 10 to 14 years continues at Buccaneers on Saturday mornings from 11 a.m. No previous rugby experience is necessary so why not come along and check it out this Saturday? Meanwhile, even though it is allegedly the off-season, there is plenty of activity around Dubarry Park with Touch Rugby coaching for girls U-18 continuing on Wednesday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30 p.m. All welcome.

Connacht Rugby is holding a Summer Camp in Dubarry Park from Monday, August 12th to Friday 16th for boys and girls aged 6 to 12 years old. No prior rugby experience is necessary. The camp will be run by IRFU accredited coaches where children can experience rugby in a fun and safe environment. They can develop their rugby skills and make friends at the camp.

Connacht Rugby players will attend on one day and all who participate for the week will received a Connacht zip top, a rugby ball and a ticket to a Connacht home match next season. Cost is €85 per child. To register, log on to www.connachtrugby.ie/summercamps

It was a wonderful occasion for the young players from Moate’s Midland Warriors who joined Robbie Henshaw at Dubarry Park where Canterbury were filming new promotional videos last week. As Robbie was playing in the PRO14 final with Leinster he had been unable to attend Buccaneers Awards Gala which took place the same night. But the opportunity to present him with Athlone Crystal honouring his Ireland appearances prior to the filming was taken by the club with outgoing President Gordon Ballantyne making the presentation.

Meanwhile Micky Carroll was presented with the Michael Hanley Memorial Perpetual Cup in recognition on being Buccaneers Club Person of the Year 2019 at the end of season BBQ in The Bounty on Saturday last.

Incidentally, happy 26th birthday to Robbie on June 12th!
