BUCCS U-14’s show promise

published:Sep  10   2018

Buccaneers U-14’s played their first league match against Corinthians in perfect conditions at Dubarry Park on Saturday. This Buccs ‘blacks’ squad were well prepared for the encounter with approximately 30 lads training and a friendly game played against Newbridge the previous week.

Buccs forwards were in outstanding form and dominated their bigger rivals who were last year’s trophy winners, constantly offloading and recycling before Niall Tallon scored at the base of the post. Noah Heavey converted but, as often happens after a score, the young Buccs lost concentration and quickly conceded a try. 7-5 at the break was a paltry return for the dominance shown but constant pressure yielded another score this time from lock Diarmuid Murtagh converted by sub out-half Euan Joyce who later added a penalty. Corinthians came back with a try but it was too late and Buccs won 17-10.

Buccs ‘yellow’ team then played the same opposition and showed a lot of promise with Peadar Dolan, Thomas Muldoon and Eoghan Naughton to the fore and debutant Eoin Keane tackling bravely in a performance that augurs well for the season.
