BUCCANEERS ANNUAL AWARDS GALA, at which the club’s Players of the Year will be honoured, takes place in the Radisson Blu Hotel, Athlone, on Saturday week, May 19th. The club will also fete our players who played on various Ireland teams during the season as well as marking the achievement of our first British & Irish Lion Robbie Henshaw. The Michael Hanley Memorial Perpetual Cup will be presented at the Gala event to the Buccaneers Club Person of the Year. It promises to be a super event and tickets are now on sale from our Administrator Geraldine at 0861732711. Early booking is urged so that numbers attending can be finalised in good time.




The Annual General Meeting of Buccaneers Rugby Football Club takes place in The Bounty on Thursday, May 24th beginning at 8 p.m. All paid up members should have received their notifications and nomination forms at this stage. Nominations and/or proposals should be submitted forthwith to the club’s Secretary.




Other upcoming events at the club include the popular TAG RUGBY SUMMER LEAGUE which gets under way on May 31st and will continue on Thursdays for nine nights. The finals night is scheduled for July 26th. You can register a team by logging on to www.irfu.ie  No previous rugby playing experience is required. Squads are made up of 12 players with 7 on pitch during matches, 3 of whom must be female. Entry fee is €495 per squad.


BUCCANEERS ANNUAL GOLF CLASSIC takes place at Glasson Golf Club on Wednesday, July 25th. Entries are invited from teams of four players. Connacht Rugby is holding a SUMMER CAMP at Buccaneers from Monday, August 13th to Friday 17th from 9.15 a.m. to 1.30 p.m. daily. Boys and Girls aged 6 to 12 years are welcome. No rugby playing experience is necessary at the camp which will be run by fully accredited IRFU coaches. Connacht Rugby players will attend and all participants will receive a Camp Pack that includes a Connacht Rugby quarter zip top, drawstring bag, water bottle and one free ticket to a selected Connacht rugby game. The main pitch and the eastern/training pitch are both out of bounds due to necessary remedial works including spraying, reseeding and fertilizing.




Application forms for tickets to Ireland’s Autumn international fixtures, including the massively anticipated game against New Zealand, are currently available at The Bounty. Applications restricted to paid-up members only.




Heartfelt condolences are extended to Kathy Conlon and family on the death of her father Paddy Flynn, Clare Island. Deepest sympathy is also extended to Aengus and Lisa O’Rourke on the recent passing of Lisa’s father John Dunwoody.
