BUCCANEERS WOMENS team bid for glory when they square up to NUIG in the Connacht Womens Cup final at Galway Sportsground on Sunday next. Kick off is 3 p.m. and will be preceded by the Plate final.

League winners NUIG will likely be favourites for this decider. They are a fast-moving, free-scoring outfit when allowed to dictate the tempo and nature of a game. Buccs must impose themselves on the proceedings and play to their collective strengths. They showed tremendous attitude, determination and a willingness to compete to the final whistle when overcoming Castlebar in the semi-final. They will have to further up that effort and endeavour against NUIG but can take heart from the fact that Castlebar drew with the College side when they met in the league.

Buccaneers have been improving nicely in recent outings and, provided they are not over-awed by final day nerves (on a pitch that looks wider than it is due to the dog track surrounding it), they are capable of upsetting their fancied opponents. The Buccs girls are worthy of support so lets see a big horde of Pirates getting behind them on Sunday. (Check the club’s website & Facebook for kick-off time)

Three young Buccaneers players Liam Winnett, Darragh Murray and Saul O’Carroll all featured in the Ireland U-18 Clubs & Schools squad that played Canada on Saturday while Ryan Lomas was named on the Ireland U-19 squad against Japan. Congrats guys.
