BUCCS AWAY TO ST. MARY’S COLLEGE

published:Nov  28   2017

BUCCANEERS are away to the club just above them in the Ulster Bank League Division 1A when they take on St. Mary’s College at Templeville Road, Dublin, on Saturday. Kick off time is 2.30 p.m. for this basement battle.

After a promising start to the campaign, St. Mary’s have lost their last four matches. Outhalf Sean Kearns has been absent in that sequence although College could call on Leinster A player Conor Dean (son of Paul) in his berth. Former Trinity duo Paddy Lavelle and USA international Tim Maupin are able performers in the Dublin side’s three-quarters line. Lock Ciaran Ruddock (brother of Ireland’s Rhys) skippers St. Mary’s in a pack that includes Leinster caps in prop Adam Coyle and flanker Caelen Doris.

Saturday’s contest is likely to be fiercely contested. Even though they were not getting the results that their performances merited, Buccaneers have battled commendably to the bitter end in every match to date. The players have displayed wonderful resolve and a resolute will, attributes that will be very much in demand in this “must win” joust. Having finally broken their duck, Buccs confidence and self belief will have benefited massively from the UCD game. But they must put in a maximum effort combined with discipline and composure at Templeville Road. If the Pirates do that, they are capable of taking the bounty and begin to climb up the league table.

Other Fixtures

BUCCANEERS SECONDS face a swift rematch with Connemara when the teams square up again in the Connacht Junior 1A League at Dubarry Park on Sunday. The Blacks are a strong outfit and will be razor keen to maintain their perch on top of this league so Buccs will need to hit the ground running when the action gets under way at 2.30 p.m.

BUCCANEERS U-20’s head for the capital on Sunday for a J.P.Fanagan Leinster League Premier 2 joust with Dublin University. Kick off is at the earlier time of 2 p.m. for this match which is scheduled for the University’s  Santry grounds.
