BUCCANEERS have a first ever meeting with Banbridge when the teams duel at Rifle Park in the Co. Down town on Saturday next. This All-Ireland League Division 1B game kicks off in the northern venue at 2.30 p.m.

Banbridge were 2A champions in 2016/17 and almost made it a second successive promotion last season before losing out narrowly to UCC for the final promotion spot. So they are consistent and will be confident despite losing 42-28 away to Old Belvedere last weekend. They are backboned by the Cromies, with Peter and Michael formidable operators in their front row. Stuart and Josh could also feature for the side coached by Daniel Soper. Ireland U-20 back James Hume has recently made his first senior appearance with Ulster. Three Ulster forwards Eric O’Sullivan, Caleb Montgomery and Greg Jones have featured for the Co. Down club so their pack will pose a formidable challenge for the midlanders. Adam Ervine and Adam Doherty are two backs who will need minding.

Buccaneers will be understrength again for this encounter although Ruairi Byrne’s return will improve options in the pack while Aidan Wynne is likely to be called upon again in the three-quarters line. However, if Buccs are spirited and disciplined, they can be counted on to contest for the duration of what is likely to be a tough test.

BUCCANEERS J1’s are also on the road this weekend with the lengthy trip west to Clifden where they square up to Connemara in the Connacht Junior 1A League on Sunday. This match has a 2.30 p.m. kick off at the Monastery Field.

The Blacks lost their opening game 14-10 at Monivea but recorded a comprehensive 42-13 win away to Galwegians last Sunday. They will provide formidable opponents on home soil but, hopefully, Buccs will be able to welcome back some of their missing personnel for this encounter.

The club has tickets for the IRFU “Your Club, Your Country” Grand Draw. Ten fabulous prizes are on offer including a trip for two to follow the Ireland team in next year’s World Cup finals in Japan! A €5,000 super holiday is also on offer. Other prizes include a state of the art home entertainment system and trips to Ireland away games in Rome and Edinburgh this season. Tickets cost just €10 each. All teams are urged to get behind this fund-raiser and all monies raised goes into the club. The draw takes place in early December. All support will be greatly appreciated.

BUCCANEERS GIRLS TEAMS are holding a TABLE QUIZ in The Bounty on Thursday, October 18th at 8.30 p.m. They have a fine array of prizes lined up and complimentary finger food will be served at the quiz. Entry fee is €40 per team of four. All support welcome.
