published:Oct  12

BUCCANEERS consolidated second place in the Ulster Bank League Division 1B when they outpointed University College Cork 49-36 in a cracking contest played at Dubarry Park, Athlone, on Saturday. Twice the Pirates build up promising leads in the 85 points scorefest, leading 25-3 after half an hour and 35-22 at the hour mark, but they had to work assiduously to the very end to shake off the spirited endeavours of the Students.

HENSHAW FAMILY EVENT

published:Oct  03

Last Friday night, in association with ‘SOFAS & BEDS', an immensely enjoyable function in Dubarry Park celebrated Robbie Henshaw’s rugby career to date and also noted his grandfather Billy’s recent 90th birthday. The evening commenced, following Connacht’s fine victory, with some of the noted BBQ food for which The Bounty is renowned before an appropriately decorated cake was wheeled out for Billy Senior. RTE rugby commentator Michael Corcoran then interviewed Robbie in his own easy style during which Robbie acknowledged the early coaching he received from his father Tony, Micky Donohue, Ronan Bushell and a key group who drove him on. He continues to do his individual training at Dubarry Park and he is champing at the bit to get out on the pitch for Leinster, where he was attracted by a fresh challenge and environment. Ireland and possibly the Lions are targets further on once he gets match fit and he would dearly love to feature against the All Blacks next month.

NAAS 16 BUCCANEERS 24

published:Oct  03

A 12 points scoring salvo in the final 2 minutes by Buccaneers transformed the outcome of their first ever competitive meeting with Naas when the Pirates made a successful raid at Forenaughts on Saturday. Buccs 24-16 victory moves the midlanders up to second place in the Ulster Bank League Division 1B following this piece of grand larceny in a well-contested but often stop-start affair played in ideal sunny conditions at the Co. Kildare venue.

BALLYNAHINCH 35 BUCCANEERS 13

published:Sep  19

BUCCANEERS made a very disappointing start to this season’s Ulster Bank League Division 1B when they went down 35-13 to Ballynahinch at Ballymacarn Park on Saturday. On a beautiful sunny afternoon, it took this game some time to catch fire before Hinch, making fewer errors than the visitors, forged a bonus point victory. Their winning margin of 22 points was the same as when the sides met in the promotion/relegation play-off at the same venue at the tail end of last season.
