The Pirates enjoyed by far the greater territory and possession throughout and the Cregagh Red Sox were fortunate to pinch a losing bonus point that keeps them in second place. Meanwhile, on the back of a fourth win in their last five outings, Buccs were finally rewarded in making some overdue ground up the league table to seventh.

Buccs warranted this vital win but made heavier work of it than necessary in front of Connacht Head Coach Andy Friend. However, following three wins in their last four matches, they now lie just a solitary point adrift of the Dubliners on the ever tightening league table.

The hosts were dogged, relying on a kicking game in testing conditions to pin Buccs back whenever the opportunity presented itself. But the Pirates stuck to the task on hand to record a win that keeps them in third place in this division as well as avenging their single point home loss to Monivea early in the season.

BUCCANEERS recorded back to back victories for the first time in this season’s All-Ireland League Division 1B when they defeated Old Belvedere 20-12 at Dubarry Park on Saturday. Concurrently, and just as importantly, they have moved up the league table a notch with each win with Ballymena and now Old Belvedere below the midlanders. This was a terrific tussle as both teams strove for vital points but the Pirates were that bit stronger and, crucially, showed the greater desire and discipline.
