TAG RUGBY FINALS ON FRIDAY

published:Jul  23

The final matches of Buccaneers Tag Rugby Summer League take place at Dubarry Park, Athlone, on Friday evening getting under way at 6.45 p.m. 11 matches in total are scheduled beginning with the fixtures to decide 7th/8th rankings and so on up to the three major finals kicking off under floodlights at 8.30 p.m. to decide ultimate honours in the three divisions.
LOVECATS, who topped their pool with an impressive scoring record, will be keen to maintain their dominance in the Division One final where LARRYS will provide stout opposition. LOVECATS scoring potential could be decisive here and they already hold bragging rights having defeat LARRYS 17-10 in their final pool game. But this duel could go either way and a cracking contest is anticipated.
Division Two was the tightest pool where three squads finished level on 18 points. DIXIE CHICKS were unlucky here to lose out on an inferior scoring difference so RIZZLESTICKS and D’INBETWEENERS will renew rivalry in the final. They drew 11-11 in their pool encounter so its the toughest clash to call.
ALL TAGS and the lengthy-monikered FIRE-BREATHING RUBBER DUCKIES both finished on 17 points after their series of pool matches so their Division Three joust is also likely to go down to the wire.
The presentation of trophies, including a special award for the ‘Tag Player of the Tournament’, follows afterwards in The Bounty where a really good shindig is likely with live music plus a BBQ being laid on. All welcome to come along!

Buccs Lions Rugby tour 2013

published:Jun  20

The Buccs Lions Tour of Australia will commence on approx. June 20th 2013, with the first Test on 22nd of June in Brisbane followed by a three day sailing trip around the Whitsunday tropical Island. This will be followed by scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, fly to Melbourne for the 2nd Test on the 29th of June. We then plan to ski in the Snowy mountains, before the 3rd Test in Sydney on July 6th and fly home asap (approx. 17 days in total) after that. If there are sufficient numbers we hope to play a match in Brisbane, a rough estimate of the cost would be €2,500 (excluding beer money) this is based on current prices and our previous experience on other tours. If you are interested in a good time then this is as good as it gets (ask anyone that has been on previous tours if you are in any doubt) Previous experience in having a good time is a mandatory requirement, (time wasters need not apply). A deposit of €500 by July 16th.

CARTY CAPPED BY IRELAND

published:Jun  17

JACK CARTY became the fifth Buccaneers player to be capped by Ireland U-20s this year when he came on as a replacement in their narrow 20-15 Junior World Cup pool defeat to England. He then started at outhalf for Ireland’s game against Italy in which teammate CONOR FINN also played on the wing. Despite Ireland enjoying a comprehensive victory, a late bonus try by South Africa in their win over England meant that the Springboks topped this pool to progress to the semi-finals. However, CARTY and FINN both came off the bench in Ireland’s magnificent 27-12 play-off victory over the ‘old enemy’, which was doubly gratifying for all the players and mentors as England had been the only team to overcome Ireland at U-20 this year. Ireland now take on France in the fifth/six place play-off and we wish the boys in green best of luck. Whatever the outcome of this final match, Ireland will have achieved their highest ever position in the Junior World Cup.
