BUCCANEERS 21 DUNMORE 42

published:Feb  25

BUCCANEERS DEVELOPMENT SQUAD’S promotion bid continues to unravel when they lost 42-21 to doughty Dunmore in their Connacht Junior 1B League encounter at Dubarry Park on Sunday. In sunny but cold conditions, Buccs made a promising start but their inexperienced squad lacked the guile and strength to build on that despite a gutsy performance. UL BOHEMIAN 39 BUCCANEERS 17

published:Feb  25

BUCCANEERS fielded a very young U-21 squad for their South-West Conference Section A game away to UL Bohemian at Annacotty on Saturday. The older and more physical College outfit proved too strong for a game Buccs side on a 39-17 margin. Prop Brian Teape excelled for Buccs and scored both his sides tries. He notched the first with a strong run in from the 22 and then grabbed his second with a break off a ruck. Jack Feeney also did well in addition to converting both tries and kicking a drop goal while Ross Moony-Enraght battled commendably to the bitter end.

published:Feb  18

BUCCANEERS maintained their impressive away form when they defeated Dungannon 24-22 in their Ulster Bank League Division 1B game that finished in a welter of excitement at Stevenson Park on Saturday. After a slow start, the midlanders were coasting 24-10 ahead with less than ten minutes remaining when the homesters capitalised on some sloppy play by the Athlone outfit to grab two late tries that almost earned a draw for the hosts. Buccs just held on for a rare win at this panoramic ground when Stuart McCloskey’s conversion attempt of Mark O’Shea’s final move try went the wrong side of the upright and thus the Pirates travelled home with the spoils.
