GREYSTONES 19 BUCCANEERS 26

published:Apr  01

Buccaneers U-20’s accounted for Greystones in a tense and difficult J P Fanagan Leinster U-20 Premier League 2 encounter at Dr. Hickey Park. The score line was the same as the previous game away to Dublin University, but this was a very different match to that impressive win versus the students. Pitch conditions were very poor and this allied to a strong wind ensured Buccaneers found it hard to impose their superior football skills on the contest. However, in a much-changed side due to injuries and unavailability of key players who featured for the AIL side the previous day, Buccaneers again showed their strength of character and depth of squad to grind out a 26-19 win and a try bonus point. Victory moves the Athlone side up another notch to third in the league table.

published:Mar  04

BUCCANEERS inflicted only the second home defeat of the season on Malone when the midlanders won their All-Ireland League Division 1B encounter 11-6 in difficult conditions at Gibson Park, Belfast, on Saturday. The Pirates enjoyed by far the greater territory and possession throughout and the Cregagh Red Sox were fortunate to pinch a losing bonus point that keeps them in second place. Meanwhile, on the back of a fourth win in their last five outings, Buccs were finally rewarded in making some overdue ground up the league table to seventh.

BUCCANEERS bounced back from last week’s last gasp loss in Armagh to record a bonus point 24-17 All-Ireland League Division 1B victory over St. Mary’s College at Dubarry Park on Saturday. Buccs warranted this vital win but made heavier work of it than necessary in front of Connacht Head Coach Andy Friend. However, following three wins in their last four matches, they now lie just a solitary point adrift of the Dubliners on the ever tightening league table.
