BUCCANEERS RUGBY FOOTBALL CLUB will hold their annual SUMMER RUGBY CAMP this year from Monday, July 18th to Friday 22nd.
The Guinness PRO12 trophy, won in such magnificent style by Connacht, will visit Buccaneers on Monday next June 20th from 8 p.m. All are invited to come along to The Bounty to take photos with this trophy.
Three Buccaneers players ROBBIE HENSHAW, TIERNAN O'HALLORAN and FINLAY BEALHAM are in the Ireland squad for Saturday's second test against the Springboks. This is a marvellous honour for the club and lets hope that Ireland can repeat the heroics of their historic first ever win in South Africa. You can watch the game and catch the atmosphere at The Bounty where all Ireland's Euro 2016 matches are being screened too!
Meanwhile, well done too to Ireland U-20s on winning all three pool games to qualify for the Junior World Cup semi-final. Unfortunately, CONOR KENNY got injured very early in the dramatic win over Six Nations champions Wales so had to miss out on the memorable victory over the Baby Blacks, for whom JORDIE BARRETT featured. He is a younger brother of BEAUDEN, son of KEVIN 'SMILEY' BARRETT who played for Buccs in the AIL when the brothers were little nippers.
Finally, good luck too to SHANE LAYDEN and his Ireland Sevens teammates as they bid to qualify for Rio de Janeiro in the Olympics Sevens Repechage in Monaco next weekend. Go for it, guys!
There was a relatively modest attendance at Buccaneers Rugby Football Club’s Annual General Meeting held in The Bounty on last Thursday. Honorary Secretary Padraig Ryan commenced proceedings by thanking all the club’s sponsors with particular gratitude expressed to title sponsors AUDI ATHLONE and ground sponsors DUBARRY of IRELAND. The operators of The Bounty were also complimented as were the Executive Committee members with special mention to Gerry McLaughlin and Brian Tallon, both of whom were not going forward for re-election.
Congratulations to CONNACHT on a superb display in the PRO12 final in which they were more comprehensive victors over fancied Leinster than the 20-10 winning margin suggests. It was a terrific and sustained all-round team performance from Pat Lam's squad who maintained their belief and endeavour from the first round right through to this stunning triumph.
There were stars in every facet of the win and Buccaneers will take great pride from the contributions of ROBBIE HENSHAW, TIERNAN O'HALLORAN, DAVID HEFFERNAN and FINLAY BEALHAM on the day.
It was not a good day for Leinster and commiserations go to ex-Bucc MICHAEL KEARNEY whose match ended prematurely due to a nasty injury.
Meanwhile, best of luck to SHANE LAYDEN whose hard work and dedicated commitment since his cruciate injury last September has been rewarded with his inclusion in the Ireland squad that participates in the Amsterdam Sevens.
