TOM BOLAND TRIUMPHS IN GOLF CLASSIC

published:Jul  17

Long time club stalwart TOM BOLAND led his team to victory in this year’s BUCCANEERS GOLF CLASSIC at Glasson Golf Hotel & Country Club. Played in Mediterranean-like weather (in total contrast to last year’s deluge) on Thursday last, it was a stamina-sapping affair. Scoring was generally excellent and it took a superb back nine of 55 by the victors to prevail by the narrowest of margins as Boland’s quartet went one better than last year’s second place. Prof. Jim Ward’s team were runners-up while Ganly’s of Athlone, bidding for an unprecedented third successive win, had to be content with third berth.

ALEX HAYMAN NAMED 'BUCCANEERS SENIOR PLAYER OF THE YEAR' AT ANNUAL AWARDS EVENT

published:May  20

ALEX HAYMAN is ‘Buccaneers Senior Player of the Year’ for season 2012/13.  ‘Haggy’, as he is fondly known by teammates and supporters, is a highly worthy winner having put in a tremendously consistent series of performances for the Senior XV throughout a lengthy season. A strong-tackling centre with an eye for a break, Hayman had his best season to date for Buccs as his on-field leadership helped a youthful squad to fourth place in their All-Ireland League division. Although a Scot, Alex has played for England at  two levels – Universities and Students! Hayman followed the trail of Mark Bruce from Loughborough College to join Buccaneers seven years ago and the club’s Matchday Programme of that initial 2006/7 season profiled that he “could be this season’s key recruit”. How right that assessment has proved to be in the interim as the popular, stalwart player has been a virtual ever-present in the First team since his arrival to Athlone, where he now works at Alkermes. He also won this accolade in 2007/8.
