CONGRATS JACK CARTY

published:Feb  25

Congratulations to Jack Carty on winning his first Ireland Senior cap in the victory over Italy in Rome. An unexpectedly tight contest meant that Jack did not enter the fray until the 77th minute but he managed 6 minutes game time and got quite a number of touches in that period. Hopefully, it will be first of many caps for the Barrymore native who has worked diligently in improving all facets of his game from year to year. The hard work and consistent performances have finally reaped due reward for the Connacht fly-half. All at Buccaneers congratulate Jack and wish him well in the Ireland ranks.

BUCCS AWAY TO MALONE IN BELFAST

published:Feb  25

BUCCANEERS are away to second placed Malone in next Saturday’s All-Ireland League Division 1B fixture at Gibson Park, Belfast. Kick off is 2.30 p.m. ‘The Cregagh Red Sox’ will be smarting having been knocked off top spot following last Saturday’s narrow defeat at Naas so Buccs must prepare for a reaction. But the midlanders will have a point to prove too, having left the Belfast side off the hook at Dubarry Park earlier in the season. Then despite a superb 56 phase final move the Pirates did not reap due reward and lost by a solitary point.

BUCCS AWAY TO MONIVEA in J1 league

published:Jan  27

With both the Firsts and U-20’s having no matches this coming weekend, Buccaneers J1’s have pride of place on the fixtures list on Sunday when they travel to the Castle Grounds to take on Monivea in the Connacht Junior 1A League. Kick off is 2.30 p.m. for this joust between two teams that have little between them on the league table. Buccs are currently in third place, just one point and one place above Sunday’s opponents. Indeed when the teams met very early in the season in Athlone, Monivea came out on top by just a single point 11-10. The Pirates were not so well organised at that stage and will be optimistic that, if they can repeat their second half display against Connemara, they can fashion an away victory.
