FIXTURES w/e October 19th

published:Oct  14

BUCCANEERS U-20s make the first of four trips to Cork in this season’s South-West Conference League Division One when they travel to take on Highfield on Saturday. Highfield’s ground is at Woodleigh Park, Model Farm Road, on the city’s Westside. Kick off is scheduled at 2.30 p.m. Buccs have a compact but tidy squad at this grade and they will travel with some confidence following fine wins over Shannon and N.U.I.G/Corinthians. It will be tougher down south but, if these young Pirates can repeat their will to work and positive attitude, they can maintain their promising start to this league.

BUCCANEERS are home to Shannon on Saturday when the clubs duel in the South-West Conference U-20 League Division One at Dubarry Park, Athlone; kick off 2.30 p.m. This will be a tougher test for these young Buccs who may have added options if Ben Carty, Eoghan O’Reilly and Rory Moloney are available for this fixture. With Buccs having six of their ten league games away from home due to the intransigence of the Cork clubs, it is vital that they maximise their return from home matches.

TOUGH OPENER FOR BUCCS IN BELFAST

published:Sep  23

BUCCANEERS commence this season’s Ulster Bank League with a tough opener away to Belfast Harlequins in Deramore Park, Belfast, on Saturday when this Division 1B tie has a 2.30 p.m. kick off.  Harlequins have been something of a sleeping giant in recent seasons but seem to have retained most of their key personnel for the forthcoming campaign. They will prove a hard nut to crack on their own compact grounds so it is imperative that Buccs hit the ground running on Saturday.

WOMEN AWAY TO CILL DARA & SECONDS HOME TO CORRIB

published:Sep  16

BUCCANEERS SECONDS have their first home league match of the season when they take on Corrib at Dubarry Park on Saturday evening in the Connacht Junior 1B League. Kick off is now at 7 p.m.These Buccs disappointed away to Ballyhaunis in their opening fixture and will be keen to atone on home ground. There is the nucleus of a decent side there with the likes of the Byrne brothers, Adrian Hughes and Liam Doran in the pack allayed to Dominic Griffiths, Nicky Purcell and David Fagan in the backline. A number of other players should be coming in to contention, possibly next weekend, when the Pirates must capitalise on home advantage. More guile will need to be shown than was displayed at Ballyhaunis but, if Buccs play to their strengths and not get bogged down in a one-dimensional game, then they can prevail. (Please note that due to the All-Ireland Football final that kick off time may be changed, so keep up to date on the club’s website).

SECONDS KICK OFF LEAGUE CAMPAIGN

published:Sep  13

On Sunday, Buccaneers Seconds squad commence their Connacht Junior League 1B campaign with a tricky assignment away to Ballyhaunis. Last year’s Development Player of the Year Dominic Griffith captains this squad and he can be counted upon to lead by example. This side has been been close to promotion in the past couple of seasons and, if they are to achieve that goal, then a good start is paramount. Buccs have a fairly youthful look about them in this grade but some of their players have had outings with the Seniors and, hopefully, that experience will stand to their good against Ballyhaunis.

BUCCS HOME TO GALWEGIANS

published:Aug  26

BUCCANEERS have their first home match of the season when they square up to Galwegians in round two of the Connacht Senior League at Dubarry Park, Athlone, on Saturday; kick off 2.30 p.m. Like the Pirates, Wegians had many new faces in their squad that travelled to Sligo last weekend where they forged a bonus point 27-5 victory. Their pack, including seasoned campaigners Jarlath Naughton, Conor Muldoon, Brian MacLearn and Eoin Rooney, dominated throughout. This gave outhalf Ross Shaughnessy a decent platform to control the play with further impressive contributions from centre Jerome Harrimate and winger Paul Power.
