BUCCANEERS and BLACKROCK COLLEGE go head to head on Saturday afternoon when the sides clash in the Ulster Bank League at Dubarry Park, Athlone. Kick off is 2.30 p.m. for what could be a make-or-break Division 1B match for both clubs. Buccs are on a really good run at the moment, steadily closing the gap on second placed Corinthians as they chase the sole play-off berth.

BUCCS HOME TO CORINTHIANS IN CONNACHT SHOWDOWN ON FRIDAY NIGHT!

BUCCANEERS square up to Connacht rivals in an Ulster Bank League showdown under the Dubarry Park, Athlone, floodlights on Friday night with this Division 1B game kicking off at 7.30 p.m. The sides played a thrilling encounter when they met in the first half of the league in Galway, a sizzling and sometimes controversial battle that went down to the final kick of the match. That penalty kick deep into a protracted period of added time gave Corinthians a 19-18 victory and Friday’s joust (which will be attended by Connacht coach Pat Lam) will surely be contested with equal intensity to the very end.

BUCCS away to Shannon

BUCCANEERS take on Shannon in a much-anticipated Ulster Bank League Division 1B match at Coonagh on Saturday, kick off 2.30 p.m. After flirting with relegation for a couple of seasons, Shannon the all-time kingpins of All-Ireland League rugby lost a relegation/promotion playoff to UCD that consigned them to Division 1B this season. They struggled early on in their new surroundings but steadied their form on the back of three successive victories pre-Christmas. They lie twelve points and two places behind Buccaneers but, remarkably, have had no AIL match in the New Year and so have three games in hand!

U-20s AWAY TO UCC IN KEY CLASH

BUCCANEERS U-20s face two acid tests with successive trips to Cork this month in the South-West Conference Division One League. First up is a joust against University Collge, Cork, on Saturday with a 12 noon kick off for this showdown which is (at time of writing) scheduled for UCC’s Curraheen Road grounds in the west of the city.
