Buccaneers U-20’s accounted for Greystones in a tense and difficult J P Fanagan Leinster U-20 Premier League 2 encounter at Dr. Hickey Park. The score line was the same as the previous game away to Dublin University, but this was a very different match to that impressive win versus the students. Pitch conditions were very poor and this allied to a strong wind ensured Buccaneers found it hard to impose their superior football skills on the contest. However, in a much-changed side due to injuries and unavailability of key players who featured for the AIL side the previous day, Buccaneers again showed their strength of character and depth of squad to grind out a 26-19 win and a try bonus point. Victory moves the Athlone side up another notch to third in the league table.

OLD WESLEY retained pole position in Division 1B of the All-Ireland League when they defeated Buccaneers 29-13 at Energia Park on Saturday. Benefiting from a settled squad on the artificial surface at Donnybrook and helped by a very early try, the Dubliners proved too slick and powerful for a considerably depleted Pirates crew who remain second from bottom.

BUCCANEERS inflicted only the second home defeat of the season on Malone when the midlanders won their All-Ireland League Division 1B encounter 11-6 in difficult conditions at Gibson Park, Belfast, on Saturday. The Pirates enjoyed by far the greater territory and possession throughout and the Cregagh Red Sox were fortunate to pinch a losing bonus point that keeps them in second place. Meanwhile, on the back of a fourth win in their last five outings, Buccs were finally rewarded in making some overdue ground up the league table to seventh.

BUCCANEERS bounced back from last week’s last gasp loss in Armagh to record a bonus point 24-17 All-Ireland League Division 1B victory over St. Mary’s College at Dubarry Park on Saturday. BUCCANEERS take on St. Mary’s College in an All-Ireland League Division 1B game that the midlanders simply must win at Dubarry Park on Saturday. Kick off for this crunch encounter is 2.30 p.m. Buccs will be stung from letting five points slip from their grasp in Armagh last Saturday and they have to go for broke in this encounter against visitors who also just pipped the Pirates when the teams met in Dublin last November. The midlanders have let a number of clubs off the hook this season but cannot afford anymore slip ups as the league approaches the final run in. Consequently, a positive response by Buccs is anticipated in this tie sponsored by the Hodson Bay Hotel Group. The Pirates will be hopeful that props Conan O’Donnell and Conor Kenny will be available for consideration for this game while Rory Moloney and Darragh Corbett could also be fit. Simon Meagher is the team’s main injury worry.
