SECONDS AWAY TO CASTLEBAR IN JUNIOR CUP

BUCCANEERS SECONDS face a tricky assignment when they head to Castlebar on Sunday for a Connacht Junior Cup joust with the Mayo club. The Pirates will need to be at their focussed and committed best when the action kicks off in Cloondeash at 2 p.m. Castlebar lie third in Division 1B but, like this Buccs side, have a tendency for inconsistency. It’s a clash that could go either way and that old sporting term “who wants it most” could be the decisive ingredient.

TABLE QUIZ ON FRIDAY NIGHT

BUCCANEERS U-17’s are holding a TABLE QUIZ on this Friday, January 5th in The Bounty beginning at 8 p.m. Teams of four with an entry fee of €10 per adult and €5 for youths. There will be prizes on offer and complimentary finger food. Here’s hoping for good support for this quiz during the holiday season.

 Buccaneers RFC is hosting a BUSINESS NETWORKING LUNCH in the Sheraton Hotel, Athlone, on Friday, February 2nd at 1.30 p.m. Guest speakers will include Gary McGann (current Chairman Aryzta who has held key roles at Ericsson, Gilbeys, Aer Lingus and Smurfit Kappa), Pat McDonagh (founder and CEO Supermacs) and Kingsley Aikins (founder and CEO Diaspora Matters and previously Enterprise Ireland and CEO American Ireland Fund). This is a key Buccaneers fund-raiser this season and the club looks forward to widespread support for this event.

BUCCS HOME TO UCD

Buccaneers face University College Dublin in the Ulster Bank League at Dubarry Park on Saturday afternoon with the action getting under way at 2.30 p.m. Buccs are still chasing their first win in Division 1A and surely their luck will turn for the better sooner rather than later. They have been decidedly unfortunate in a number of matches so far in what has been a steep learning curve for the squad. Injuries and absentees for other reasons have not helped their cause but the players have continued to play with massive pluck and will take heart from losing bonus points in their two most recent outings away to Terenure College and at home to dual champions Cork Constitution.
