'ATHLONE RUGBY 7s & TAG FESTIVAL', sponsored by SMITH'S SUPERVALU, takes place at Dubarry Park, Athlone, over the August bank holiday weekend. Three Sevens competitions are being staged by host Buccaneers club on Saturday 4th with the action scheduled to kick off at 12 noon. These are OPEN MENS, WOMENS OPEN & JUNIOR MENS with a total cash prize fund of €4,000 on offer.

€2,000 is the top prize for the OPEN MENS tournament with €1,000 up for grabs in both the WOMENS OPEN and JUNIOR MENS events. Entry fees per squad of 12 players is €250 for the OPEN MENS with €200 fee to enter either of the other two competitions.

Teams from afar as Belgium and Latvia have confirmed entry to the OPEN MENS where they will face stiff competition from the likes of the South Sea Islanders back-boned WILD GEESE and CONNACHT ACADEMY among others. There is a decent range of entries in the JUNIOR MENS event while entries are still coming in for the WOMENS OPEN tournament. Accomodation can be arranged for participants if required.

A TAG RUGBY tournament for mixed squads of 12 players under IRFU laws is planned for Sunday 5th. Discounts are available here for teams participating in both the Sevens and Tag events. Off the field activities are also planned on Saturday. Meanwhile, participants and spectators can avail of a wide range of food and beverages throughout the day and night at The Bounty!
