The Irish Colleges & Universities rugby finals take place in Dubarry Park on this Wednesday, March 21st. This is the second successive year that these prestigious deciders are being held in Athlone. Six finals are down for decision with the opening match kicking off at 1 p.m. Highlight is likely to be the concluding match between IT Carlow and Garda, which is a repeat of last year’s Mens final. Unfortunately, host college Athlone Institute of Technology does not feature in any of the finals this year.


The fixtures are as follows:-

Womens Division 2 final              University of Limerick B v IT Tralee. 1 p.m.

Mens Rugby Tier 3 final              DCU B/Dundalk IT v NUI Galway. 1.30 p.m.

Womens Division 1 Shield final                UCC v UCD             Kick off 3 p.m.

Mens Tier 2 final            IT Carlow B/UL v Galway-Mayo IT/Belfast Met. 3.30 p.m.

Womens Division 1 final           University of Limerick A v DCU A.  Kick off 5 p.m.

Brendan Johnston Cup Mens final            IT Carlow v Garda          Kick off 7 p.m.


The Womens All-Ireland League club finals follow at Dubarry Park on Saturday, March 24th featuring the top female rugby players in Ireland. Three titles are up for grabs here at the very central Athlone venue which also hosted these finals last year.


These fixtures are as follows:-

AIL Plate final                St. Mary’s College v Blackrock             Kick off 12 noon.

AIL Shield final               Tullamore v Rathdrum                          Kick off 1 p.m.

AIL Cup final                  University of Limerick v Railway Union   Kick off 3.30 p.m.
