Three Athlonians will be part of the Ireland Rugby World Cup squad and backroom team. Robbie Henshaw and Jack Carty were named in the 31 man squad last week while Keith Fox is one of the team’s key physio personnel. Fox hails from a very sporting family in the town with mother Pat being a member of the Dolan clan that includes Dessie and Gary of Westmeath and Garrycastle fame and Frankie from St. Brigid’s and Roscommon. Keith operates the successful Action Physio clinic in Blyry and he was physio at Buccaneers before moving to Connacht and then progressing to the Ireland ranks.

Robbie made a magnificent return to action for Ireland in their 19-10 win over Wales at the Aviva Stadium. He put in a remarkable performance considering he has seen so little on-field action this year. Unlucky not to score a try, Henshaw made an inspiring chase, tackle and turnover on Dan Biggar and he could well have followed fellow Buccaneer Carty as a man of the match winner.

Jack got another important taste of Test action with Joe Schmidt introducing him for the final quarter during which he was composed and confident in his contribution as Ireland pegged Wales back in the closing stages. Victory for Ireland elevates to No.1 ranking in the world!

Buccaneers RFC proudly wishes all three --- Jack, Robbie and Keith --- a successful and memorable trip to the Rugby World Cup.

Tom and Paschal celebrated ten years at the helm of The Bounty with a most enjoyable celebration there last Saturday night. A massive turnout was testament to their hard work, long hours and personal touch and the input of their staff at the popular bar and restaurant at Dubarry Park. A top class complimentary BBQ was served and the Henshaw Family entertained all who attended, including proud dads Tony Henshaw and Ted Carty who will both surely be winging to Japan shortly in support of respective sons Robbie and Jack. Incidentally, The Bounty will be screening all Ireland’s World Cup matches so watch this space for further details and RWC events!

For those unable to attend on Saturday last, Membership Registration will also take place in The Lower Deck at Dubarry Park on Saturday week, September 21st from 11 a.m. Subscription rates remain unchanged for the third year in a row.
