U11's v Galwegians

Brief summary of U11's game in Galwegians:


Buccaneers U11's were away to Galwegains on Saturday last and put in one of the best performances of the season against the 2 Galwegains teams. The midland team started the first game at quick pace and scored the first try after 2 minutes followed by a second shortly after the restart.


The second half was a little more competitive as the home team made some vital substitutions which brought the home team brought more into the game and finally scored 2 tries to bring them back level.


Galwegains put out their strongest team for the second game and started with 3 tries in succession. The Buccanneers youngsters fought back and put in a blistering display to beat the home team by 5 tries to 3.


Credit must be given to all 15 players who made the trip to Galway and put in the best performance for their club.

Buccaneers Mini Rugby Blitz Match report Sat 24th Jan 2015

Buccaneers travelled to Galway for a fine display from two well coached and well disciplined sides as Galwegians hosted the Midland lads on Saturday morning last. Both sides had great turnouts and Buccs were able to field almost 2 teams and Galwegians with home advantage had 3 teams at each age level from U7’s to U12’s. Many thanks to Galwegians for a competitive entertaining blitz and some great hospitality in their clubhouse afterwards. Thanks also to all those parents who travelled in cars to support and cheer on their young players.

U7’s - The Under 7’s played 3 matches and scored 14 tries in all. The won all 3 of their games and displayed some great running, tackling and passing by all.

U8’s - Buccaneers U8’s had 2 teams in Galway today. All played excellent, winning all their games and scoring great tries, there was a lot of team effort and players really started to shine. All enjoyed the rugby and the weather held up great.

Buccs team: Calum Hudson, Andrew Henson, Daniel Fogarty, Christian O Brian, George Mhitarjans, Richard Heaslip, Van McCay, Barry Carr, Brendan Feery, Cathal Feery, Donal Dawson, Daniel Kelly, Paul O Sullivan, Kyle Mahon, Kevin Boland, Nils Chapel, Daithi O Leochain, Liam O Flaherty, Adam Casey, Rory Dolan. A great morning was had and thanks to Galwegians

U9’s - Buccaneers U9s travelled to Galwegians on Saturday 24th to continue their winning run of matches.  Buccaneers U9 played against 3 Galwegians teams defeating two and drawing the third.

In the first game which was a tight affair, Buccaneers game from 1 try down to and move into a 2-1 lead with 2 minutes remaining. Quick passing from Michael Commins and Lucas Carlin enabled Nathan Downes to score just before half time. In the second half Charlie O’Carroll showed great strength to break 3 tackles before scoring. Galwegians fought back in the closing minutes of the game to draw.

 In the second match Buccaneers raced into a 2-0 lead with tries scored by Tiernan Mitchell and Sean O’Donoghue. Galwegians fought back to draw level before Buccaneers increased the pressure with tremendous tackling from Patrick Ward and Tom Bourke leading to Buccaneers scoring two more tries by Tom Sheehan and Shane Wheatley to win 4-2.

In the final match a tired Buccaneers team went behind 3-0 early in the first half. Just before half time Buccaneers scored a try from Rian Claffey after some big defensive tackles from Tom Bourke and James Heaslip. In the second half Buccaneers showed great determination to draw level at 3-3 with tries from Jason Dolan and Sean O’Donoghue. With the game level and 3 minutes remaining Buccaneers capitalised on some great rucking to overturn possession. Quick passing from Patrick Ward and Sean Noone put Charlie O’Carroll away to score the winning try.

U10’s - Buccs U10’s fielded 2 teams against Galwegians 4, so the Midland lads were tired by the time the whistle blew on the last of the 3 games each team played.

Entertaining rugby was the order of the day and Team A started strongly with a narrow win but Team B was slower to get going and lost their first match. In the second round both teams drew in very tight games where both sides had runners breaking from deep in the opposition’s half to score.

Team A finished their last match with another win and Team B also finished strongly with a win and their best performance of the day and some strong physical rugby with great rucking and driving runs up the centre, in spite of Galwegians running on new teams and fresh legs several times throughout the matches.

Both sides played clean and open rugby and were a credit to both sets of coaches.

U12’s - 1st match: A slow start from Buccs as they were loosing 4 -0 at half time, but they got into their stride in 2nd half scoring 3 trys, loosing 4-3 full time..
2nd match:
Buccs changed tactics using their strong forwards to power home 3 unanswered tries from Adam Farnan, Lorcan Fallon and Adam O’ Brien. With a great team performance, the back line put in superb tackling to put Galwegians under pressure especially from David Colgan, Mikey Lynam and Padraig Robins..
3rd match: Buccs came out strong with their forwards hitting Galwegians hard,with Adam Farnan taking the ball and bringing 7 Galwegians players with him from which Buccs got a penalty and  a quick pass put Luke Murphy in for a try in the corner. The 2nd try came from a Galwegians lineout which was won by Buccs Daragh Fitzgerald, who knocked it down to Adam Farnan who powered over for his second try. Great line running and tackling from the backline Brendan Costello, John Dillon O’ Shea and Ethan Friel helping Buccs win 2-1 full time.
